Washington D.C!

Well, well, sorry for not posting since March 3rd! Truth is, I have been very occupied with several different things including a ball I went to with my friends, I am in the back beside the taller guy in the middle)

Myself and a friend

A group picture

 and.......a trip to Washington D.C.!

I would post some pictures here, but I took so many I think I will save them for a separate post and simply talk about the trip here. We left at the beginning of April with another family and tent-camped outside of D.C and drove in every day. On the way we stopped at Gatlinburg and Cade's Cove in Tennessee Harper's Ferry, located at the junction of the Shenandoah and the Potomac Rivers and also the death-place of the abolitionist John Brown who was killed by Federal troops eighteen months before the Civil War. Ironic, huh? Once in D.C,  we hit everything we possibly could in eight days including the following: Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, National Museum of American History, National Gallery of Art (which happened to have a limited-time-only pre-Raphaelite exhibit there when we came through), the National Air and Space Museum, the Capitol Building, the Supreme Court and the following memorials: Iwo Jima (U.S.M.C) Lincoln, Jefferson, Washington Monument, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, World War II Memorial and the Memorial to the 56 Signers of the Declaration of Independence. We also went up in Pennsylvania to Lancaster County (Amish Country) and saw Gettysburg. We also went to the Arlington Cemetery and saw the changing of the guard as well as the Eternal Flame beside JFK's tomb.

After D.C we went down to Mt. Vernon, Jamestown, Yorktown and Assateague Island and Chincoteague before heading home. More pictures in the next post!

Literary Society

Hey everyone, check out inklingsliterarysociety.blogspot.com for our latest issue of the Lamp Post Newspaper! You can find my entries under Mr. Midshipman Hornblower. Also, for a quick update and a picture, last Sunday I went to an airsoft war at a ranch for a friend's birthday party. A quick pic: (I'm the one with the rifle, M4 Tactical Viper, really nice gun.)

Also, triple-feature style, a poem I wrote recently...

True Friendship
Life will crash down all around you,
But when it does you’ll know I’m near,
When it drives you to your knees,
I will wipe away your tears.

When you feel like you are helpless,
And the pain’s too much to bear,
I’ll be there to hold your hand
And show you that I care.

For I know what true friendship is,
I experienced it long ago,
When I had a friend as strong as steel,
Who with a word my heart had sealed,
But that was long ago.

No argument did separate us,
Just the icy hand of death,
And though I cried when my friend had gone,
I knew that it was best.

We’d spent many happy days,
And we’d traveled far and wide,
We were always right together,
Standing strong, side by side,

We rarely had a quarrel,
But when we did we soon forgave,
For our love each-other toward
Was stronger than the grave.

Our position was often awkward,
And our friends would point and stare,
But we defined true friendship,
So we didn’t really care.

We traveled through this world of strife,
Together hand-in-hand
We laughed at all life’s dangers,
For we knew of a greater land.

Far beyond the Foaming Rocks,
And towering over this tiny land,
There’s a world of beauty and majesty,
Designed by a skillful Hand.

My friend has already reached it,
My friend is waiting there,
And I am hurrying through this world,
The delay is hard to bear.

Teen Court

A picture taken after Teen Court. I am to the right, my sister (senior attorney) is to the left and my other sister, (judge for Master Jury) is in the middle. You might have noticed it in my sidebar, but my sisters and I are part of a local Teen Court Program. October kicked off my freshman year as an attorney for Teen Court and I am definitely enjoying it. We go with about four other friends from our church along with the kids from the local highschool and I must say I look forward to it all month, every month. Our Teen Court is hoping to enter the National Teen Court Competition this year, but unfortunately my sister (on the left side) and I will not be able to enter this year because we will be out-of-state. However, I'm hoping that perhaps next year we will be able to. Click 'cool' if you're part of a Teen Court program!
